The Channels, Santa Barbara City College, CA

1 day ago by Stephen DeFilippo

In the summer of 2006, I drove across the country from New York, to the proverbial, "rest of my life." I never would have imagined The Channels lab becoming the second home and sanctuary it is. It's the one place that's been constant in my life in Santa Barbara.

A By-the-Numbers Review of the Gas Tax Holiday Idea

The Chaparral, College of the Desert, CA

1 day ago by Tom Connors

Hillary Clinton and John McCain say the government should stop collecting taxes on gasoline purchases for the summer in order to reduce prices. Barack Obama says it's a cheap-trick that will only save you $28 in three months.

Far be it from us to interfere with the readers' right to take whatever view of that issue they please.

House: We value your trust

The Daily Utah Chronicle, University of Utah, UT

Trust is a crucial element to the success of a newspaper. It is our primary goal at The Chronicle to seek and report the truth. Recently, this newspaper printed an attempt at satire that has drawn sizeable criticism from the community and put the trust we earn and value at risk.

Israel has the right to exist just like all other countries

Daily Lobo, University of New Mexico, NM

Editor, Israel is a legally established nation under international law, established under conditions similar to those of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and several other Middle Eastern nations, whose right to exist are not at all disputed. Israel's right to exist has been disputed since the beginning, and the establishment of Israel was controversial simply because it was a Jewish state.

Gun incident just a way of getting people's attention

Daily Lobo, University of New Mexico, NM

Editor, I've known Kevin Boyar for two years. He collects guns like thousands of people - including me - across America do. He was stupid and brought a gun to school and, therefore, should be punished according to the law. What is unacceptable, and there is plenty that is unacceptable, is that now not only does he and his family have to pay in time and money for his mistake but also become the target of the fanaticism of people here.

TUCKER WINCELE: Bogus sensationalism at students' expense

The Daily Aztec, San Diego State, CA

Want to know the truth about Operation Sudden Fall? I wouldn't ask the Drug Enforcement Administration, the national news or even Stephen Weber, all of whom have thrown the students of San Diego State under the bus.

Last Tuesday, authorities wrapped up a year-long undercover investigation that began after an SDSU student died of a drug overdose. University officials feared this case was indicative of a larger culture of illegal drug use and invited federal agents to infiltrate the student body.

Drug arrests are busting up SDSU's rep

The Daily Aztec, San Diego State, CA

A university is a brand, complete with an image that it sells to potential customers.

Well, it's damage control time. San Diego State's brand suffered a major disaster Tuesday, when "Operation Sudden Fall" caused the national image of SDSU to suddenly plummet.

LAPD Perpetuates Profiling

Valley Star, Los Angeles Valley College, CA

2 days ago by Brad Taylor

Two weeks ago, the Los Angeles Police Department dropped 320 pending cases of racial profiling by its officers, and in doing so showed that justice may not be blind, but police officials are.

This is the sixth consecutive year that all allegations have been dismissed by the LAPD.

Sex - By the time we hit college, we all know what it is and a sizable chunk of us are doing it. But when it comes down to it, what we do in our bedrooms (or wherever else) is no one's business but our own. Unfortunately, Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo had his sex life revealed to the public because of his encounter with three prostitutes at the end of April.

Debt and debauchery!

Arizona Daily Wildcat, University of Arizona, AZ

3 days ago by Sarah Devlin

In a year of historic presidential campaigns, busted prostitution rings and economic disaster, the biggest issue of the year, to my mind, was Kanye West's much-anticipated appearance at McKale Center. Kanye's concert brought several campus issues to the fore - for instance, why hasn't the UA hosted a concert since Garth Brooks performed in 1997? The concert also placed the Associated Students of the University of Arizona under campus-wide scrutiny for their financial management after the Daily Wildcat reported a $150,000 loss from the concert.

THE GOSSIP GIRL: Don't ignore celebs, learn from them

Britney Spears has been granted a miracle.

Finally, there's someone for the media to now fall all over who's more screwed up than she is .

I'm sure it doesn't take a genius to guess the biggest mess in Hollywood, or rather the United Kingdom, and unfortunately she has to share my first name - Amy Winehouse.

Celebrating Cinco De Mayo

Roundup, Pierce College, CA

MAY 5, 2008-Contrary to popular belief, Cinco De Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day; It's not even a national holiday. It's the anniversary of a battle Mexico won against the French army in 1862. Yet, the "holiday" is overblown here in the United States, with Cinco De Mayo.

ASI platforms are too cliché

The Poly Post, Cal Poly Pomona, CA

3 days ago by DANIEL UCKO, News Editor

A week ago, there was only one candidate running for student body president in the ASI election going on today, Wednesday and Thursday.

A week ago, I was ready to launch my campaign for Team W.H.I.T.E., aka We Hope I Take the Election. Appalled at the lack of competition for such an important role, I was ready to announce my own presidency and give the students a different choice.

The fall of Paul

Arizona Daily Wildcat, University of Arizona, AZ

3 days ago by Taylor Kessinger

The meteoric rise and equally cataclysmic fall of Ron Paul's campaign continues to be a source of amusement for us all.

Accomplishments of the campaign included a second-place finish at the Values Voter debate in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and the purchase of a blimp - yes, a blimp - to advertise in New Hampshire.

Winegar: Life exists south of Salt Lake City

The Daily Utah Chronicle, University of Utah, UT

3 days ago by Bridger Winegar

I can imagine falling into the temptation of becoming a New York City elitist. I could even see myself getting more specific with one of the city's boroughs or neighborhoods--a Brooklyn snob or a West Village snoot, for example. I'd struggle to do the same with Salt Lake City, however.

Shattuck: Get in shape for the right reasons

Shattuck: Get in shape for the right reasons

The Daily Utah Chronicle, University of Utah, UT

It's the most wonderful time of the year. One may ask, why? No, it's not Avoid-One's-Family Christmas. Nor is it our Pretend-To-Not-Be-Depressed Valentine's Day. It's not even An-Excuse-To-Dress-Like-A-Superhero-or-a-Whore Halloween. This most wonderful time of the year I'm referring to is the beginning of summer-an annual time of year that society anticipates more than fundamentalist Christians anticipate the Rapture.

Rush Limbaugh: Hillary's Unlikely Savior

The Chaparral, College of the Desert, CA

4 days ago by Tom Connors

Recently a reader commented on TheChaparral.com that he believed Republicans are voting for Obama because he can't beat McCain.

I value that opposing viewpoint, however divergent from reality it may be. I also value the truth though: so here it is. Rush Limbaugh, conservative demagogue extraordinaire, did in fact ask his followers to vote in Democratic primaries in his "Operation Chaos".
